Kevin Bruder Obituary, Death – ECHL mourns loss of Board of Governors Chairman

The ECHL and its member teams are deeply saddened by the passing of Kevin Bruder, Chief Executive Officer of the Utah Grizzlies and Chairman of the ECHL Board of Governors, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 56. The League extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

“Kevin’s dedication to the ECHL over the past two decades was instrumental in the League’s growth and success,” said ECHL Commissioner Ryan Crelin. “He was known for his steady, rational approach and unwavering commitment to the greater good. His leadership, reflected in his four consecutive terms as Chairman of the ECHL Board of Governors, will be greatly missed. More than just a leader, Kevin was a beloved family man, a great friend, and a person of immense character. His loss will be felt by all who knew him.”

Bruder, who had served as Chairman since 2021, had been with Elmore Sports Group, the ownership group of the Utah Grizzlies, since 1997. He also managed the Maverik Center from its opening that same year. In 1998, he became President of Centennial Management Group, and in 2005, he was named President of the Grizzlies. He oversaw the team’s transition from the American Hockey League to the ECHL and assumed the role of CEO in February 2006.

A graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Bruder also earned his MBA from Drake University. He furthered his professional expertise by attending the Public Assembly Administration School and the International Association of Assembly Managers Senior Executive Symposium.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Susan, and their children Allison, Emily, Joel, and Christopher. His legacy as a dedicated leader, community pillar, and friend will remain an enduring part of the ECHL and the Utah Grizzlies family.
